Draw a shape layer in the composition panel. Select the shape tool (Q) Set the stroke color to black and stroke width to 5 on the tools panel. Michael Gochoco demonstrates an easy fix for this, and also provides some things to look out for when employing this technique. Create a new composition, using a grey background so that I can see a black stroke color. This will apply a Photoshop-style adjustment to the layer after it has been manipulated. By far the easiest way to do this is to use the Layer > Layer Styles >Stroke item in the menu. Michael quickly notes that the jagged edge effect is caused by the alpha blending with values that are greater than 1, or in the high dynamic range, multiplying the alpha with the color values to produce a result, giving you an image that has less of the background color, and more of the foreground color, which will lead to the jagged edge look. The way to maintain the weight of the stoke on layers is to apply it after any scale. Working in 32bpc has its advantages as well as gotchas you’ve got to watch out for Some of these options are available for paint strokes, layer styles, and effects.

Often times working in 32BPC in After Effects, aside from being ridiculously slow, will leave you with some strange things happening to the edges of some layers.
